Biography
Fernando Cellicion is a traditional Indian flutist from Zuni Pueblo. While the typical Zuni flute is more like a whistle in function, playing only one or two notes, a typical Indian flute may have six holes and be capable of producing more notes. Cellicion introduced the latter style to Zuni. His musical style is unique because he uses a non-traditional (at least for Zuni) flute to play secular dance songs, when typically flute playing is reserved for sacred occasions. He and his family perform traditional music and dance at Zuni and around the country. [source: Dana Everts 4/7/1989]
