Biography
Gerry Carthy is a traditional Irish musician who living in Santa Fe. He was born in Castlebar County Mayo, Ireland. He became interested in traditional Irish music while living in England after leaving school, learning to play the mandolin and tin whistle. Upon his eventual return to Ireland he began to play tenor banjo. After 10 years in Galway, Carthy settled in Santa Fe during a cross-country road trip inspired by Jack Kerouac. He uses the tin whistle, mandolin, tenor banjo, button accordion, baritone ukelele, guitar, and his voice in his music.
